Pet of the
Week
01/25/2013 09:20:29 AM
This week’s pet is Earl, a rat belonging to Brooke of
Marquette

Here’s what Brooke has to say--
“I met Earl during my last semester of school; he was
one of my lab rats for a psychology class, and I picked
him because he looked very curious and alert--a sign of
intelligence. We were training the rats in a Skinner box
to press a lever for food pellets (one lever press for a
pellet, then two, then four, then five, then ten, etc.),
and by the end of the semester he would press the lever
25 times for a pellet, which was higher than any of the
other rats! As you can see, he's very smart, so I'm
quite proud of him!
I didn't want Earl to go to the Biology department, so
he came home with me. He's about nine months old now and
very affectionate. He loves to run and jump around and
explore the nooks and crannies he finds in my room, as
well as hang out on my shoulder. He also enjoys being
fed without having to press a lever anymore. :)”
