Deputies from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office were called to a single snowmobile personal injury accident in Sands Township yesterday morning. The crash occurred on the power lines approximately ¼ mile west of Flodin Road near trail #8. 49-year old Roger Tenpass of Ellington, New York was northbound on the power lines when he went over an unexpected hill. Tenpass went airborne for a short distance, rolled his sled, and was ejected from the snowmobile. He received injuries to his back and was transported to Marquette General Hospital. The incident remains under investigation.


Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE: CLF) (Paris: CLF) announced its inclusion in two of the inaugural Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CIIs) launched by Bloomberg in January 2010. The Maplecroft CIIs ranks the top-performing U.S. companies in terms of climate-related innovation and carbon management programs. In addition to its listing in the Maplecroft CII index (Bloomberg: CICOMP), Cliffs was also ranked in the Maplecroft CII Leader (Bloomberg: CII) index as one of the 100 top-performing companies from the Maplecroft CII index.


State Representative Judy Nerat (D-Wallace) is getting into the spirit of "March is Reading Month" by reading to students at local elementary schools in the U.P. Nerat recently read to students at Norway Elementary School in Norway and at Iron Mountain Central Elementary School in Iron Mountain. On Friday, she will share a story with students at Menominee Catholic Central School and at Central Elementary School in Menominee. The annual nationwide reading celebration began on March 2, the birthday of children's author Dr. Seuss.


AAA Michigan says gasoline prices  are up 7.2 cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $2.72. the statewide average is 71 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time. Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel is in the metro Detroit area, where it's $2.70 a gallon. The highest average can be found in the Marquette area at $2.77.
