Foo Fighter Grohl offers support to trapped Aussie miners.

BEACONSFIELD, AUSTRALIA  [Thursday May.11.2006]  /WMQT.com/ -- Last week, Foo Fighter frontman Dave Grohl offered his support and some cold beers to two Tasmanian men trapped in a mine shaft a half mile underground.

On April 25th, a small earthquake caused a massive rock fall at the Beaconsfield mine in Tasmania, leaving Brant Webb, 37, and Todd Russell, 35, stuck underground in a tiny steel cage. They were found alive five days later, and rescue efforts continued for almost two weeks until the two miners were freed earlier this week.

The Associated Foreign Press reports Webb and Russell used a PVC pipe to communicate with rescuers, who sent food and iPods down the pipe to help the miners get through their ordeal. The men showed a lot of courage and humor, and they even requested music by the Foo Fighters for their iPods.

Dave Grohl got wind of this and sent the trapped miners a fax of support, offering to buy them a cold beer anytime and anywhere once they were freed. Mine manager Matthew Gill read Grohl's message to the men, who were reportedly "stoked" to hear it.

After being trapped for 321 hours, the miners were freed early Tuesday morning (May 9). They are in good health and good spirits and looking forward to hanging out with Dave Grohl.
