NEW YORK, NY  [Wednesday Jun.21.2006]  /WMQT.com/ -- Who are the top power players in the music biz today?

According to Forbes magazine, it's U2 and 50 Cent.

They are among the artists who secured spots on Forbes annual power list, "The Celebrity 100."

To make the list, the celebrity must not only have the financial earnings but also a certain "sizzle," says the magazine.

Both U2 and 50 Cent placed in the Top 10 of Forbes' Celebrity 100. U2, who came in at No. 4, "made more money in 2005 than any other musicians on the planet," earning $110 million. The Irish rockers also secured a top spot on the Celebrity 100 due to singer Bono's tireless activism for debt relief and to raise AIDS awareness in Africa.

Rapper 50 Cent comes in at No. 8., having earned $41 million from album sales, acting, and various businesses including the G-Unit and a stake in Glaceau Vitamin Water.

Other musicians landing on the list include the Rolling Stones (No. 2), Bruce Springsteen (No. 11), Paul McCartney (No. 14), Elton John (No. 16), Celine Dion (No. 24), The Eagles (No. 39), Rod Stewart (No. 40), Jessica Simpson (No. 44), Neil Diamond (No 47), Will Smith (No. 49), Dave Matthew Band (No. 51), Jennifer Lopez (No. 59), and Sean (Diddy) Combs (No. 79).

So who topped Forbes' Celebrity 100 List this year? Actor Tom Cruise.
