LOS ANGELES, CA [Monday Aug.28.2006] /WMQT.com/ -- The word 'hippie" was all it took for director Tony Kaye to tap into his creative vision for the "Dani California" music video.
After hearing it in the lyric "poppa was a copper and mama was a hippie", he immediately envisioned something historical, and decided the video should honor great moments in music from the 50's 'til today. According to VH1.com, when producer Rick Rubin got wind of the idea, he liked it so much that shooting started two weeks later. Now the video is up for seven VMA's, including Video of the Year.
The 2006 Video Music Awards will air August 31st, at 8pm ET/PT on MTV. For more information and to see all the 2006 nominees, visit www.mtv.com
