LOS ANGELES, CA  [Thursday Aug.31.2006]  /WMQT.com/ -- Jessica Simpson was forced to cancel an appearance on Letterman after a doctor diagnosed her with a bruised vocal cord.

The timing couldn't be worse for the singer, who is doing all she can to promote her new album, "A Public Affair."

She made it over to TRL, but didn't perform, and instead introduced videos and signed autographs. Simpson's hoping she'll be good-to-go in time for an appearance on the Today show this Friday.
