Prince Cover Leaves Foo Fighters Scratching Their Heads
Band not sure why he did it

by Laura Katz

Foo Fighters
LOS ANGELES, CA  [Monday Feb.12.2007]  /WMQT.com/ -- The Foo Fighters were left pleased and puzzled by Prince's Superbowl XL halftime show, during which he performed a cover of the band's hit song "Best Of You."

Drummer Taylor Hawkins said, "Dude, I have no idea why he did it, but I'd love to find out. I mean, the thought went through my head that maybe he was doing it as a sort of 'F**k you' to us, or maybe he really likes the song."

"Either way, it was pretty amazing to have a guy like Prince covering one of our songs - and actually doing it better than we did."

The Foo Fighters recorded a version of the Prince song "Darling Nikki," which he did not want released in the U.S.. Hawkins said, "We wanted to put it out here in the States, but Prince wouldn't let us. I heard that he didn't like our version. Or maybe he didn't like us doing it."
