LOS ANGELES, CA  [Monday Mar.5.2007]  /WMQT.com/ -- Senegalese R&B star Akon has finally to rest any rumors that he is a polygamist.

Akon, whose real name is Allaune Thiam, has just one loving wife and three sons ages 5, 9 and 10.

The singer said, "There was a big rumour about me having many wives. It started off as a joke and it got serious. And then I was just running with it to see how far it'd go. In a way, I was causing controversy, 'cause I knew certain people that wouldn't normally attend to me, that will make them go, 'What?' So, in a way, it was a publicity stunt."

Here's a little bit of trivia: Akon's father, jazz percussionist Mor Thiam has three wives in Senegal, where it's accepted as part of Muslim practice.

Check out Akon's hit album, "Konvicted," which features guest appearances by Snoop Dogg and Eminem. The star is also working on Whitney Houston's comeback.
