Rock Legends Give Up the Goods For "Music Rising"
The Edge to donate his most beloved guitar

by Laura Katz

U2
NEW YORK, NY  [Tuesday Mar.27.2007]  /WMQT.com/ -- U2's The Edge will soon be saying goddbye to his favorite guitar, a 1975 Gibson Les Paul.

The veteran musician is hoping his beloved axe will bring in some cash to help Music Rising, a charity he co-founded to replace musical equipment lost or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The guitar will be auctioned off Saturday, April 21st in New York City, with a special performance to follow.

According to the charity's website, juliensauctions.com, the guitar is expected to bring in between $60,00 to $80,000.

The Edge said of his guitar, "I wanted that Steve Jones 'Never Mind The Bollocks' sound, so I got the same guitar right down to the color. I never could get that sound, but I found a bunch of songs in this instrument, and have used it extensively ever since, on tour and in the studio."

Other items on the block - a guitar owned by Jimi Hendrix, sunglasses worn by John Lennon and Bono, an Elvis Presley original recording contract, Kurt Cobain's MTV award, and Bruce Springsteen handwritten lyrics.

There's even going to be a saxophone signed by Bill "Bubba" Clinton.

For more information or to register to bid on the items, visit www.juliensauctions.com.
