NASHVILLE, TN [Tuesday Apr.10.2007] /WMQT.com/ -- Martina McBride says that one of the highlights of making her new album was adding the talents of Keith Urban to Waking Up Laughing on a song called "Trying To Find a Reason."
"I'm not one to just randomly put artists on songs. I really have to be moved to put a certain artist on a song. And when I heard 'Trying to Find a Reason,' I said 'Keith Urban has to sing on this song!' I thought it was important that he play guitar on it because guitar is so much of who he is. I thought it'd be weird to have him singing but to have some other guitar sound and guitar solo. And his voice on this song is just-our voices blend so well together. He told me he really loved the song and you can tell when you hear him sing it."
KEITH URBAN SAYS REHAB ALMOST COST HIM THE CUT ON MARTINA'S RECORD.
Keith Urban says he was thrilled with Martina's invitation to sing on her record, but when he entered rehab, he thought that had cost him the gig.
"I guess it was early October, late September, early October just before I went into treatment, and I was driving around town listening to it just going 'this is an amazing song, I love this song,'... so, I was scheduled to do it and then had to reschedule. That was one of the things as I was going in that I thought 'Oh man, I'm not going to get to sing this song, there were many things on my mind, but that was one of them. And I couldn't believe when I got out that John (McBride) said, 'If you want to do it we've still got time. It's down to the wire but if you can do it the next whatever day it was, because I was in L.A. I just went into Capitol studios out there, and Martina got on the phone and we did it via that way in a studio in Nashville and a studio in L.A. I sang out there and we got it done. Then I wasn't happy with the guitar work so when I came to Nashville a few days later, I replayed a few things and was glad I got to do it."
MEANWHILE...URBAN IS LOOKING FORWARD TO NEW SINGLE Keith Urban says he's looking forward to the release of his new single, "I Told You So," from his Love, Pain, and the whole crazy thing CD. A tune that came to him while noodling around on the banjo and, has become his first totally self-penned single.
"This I going to be coming out April 16th, I believe and the first single that I've written myself, I'm excited about it coming out. It was really born of, I was kind of playing my banjo one day at home and this kind of little kind of funky, I don't know what it is, almost a kind of Irish lilt to it, kind of Celtic vibe as well and the song kind of came in little bits and we went into the studio and finished it there."
