LOS ANGELES, CA  [Wednesday Apr.11.2007]  /WMQT.com/ -- According to Punkbands.com, Dr. Jason R. Grant, a botanist from Switzerland, has named a new plant after one of today's most popular rock bands.

The plant is called Macrocarpaea dies-viridis, which in Latin translates to Green Day.

Dr. Grant said, "My students and I discovered this new species in February 2006 in Ecuador, and listened to Green Day music while driving, and in the evenings. Obviously as a botanist I am concerned with the environment, and applaud the efforts of the Natural Resources Defense Council."

Green Day and the NRDC have teamed up in the fight to protect our environment. For more information and to find out what you can do to help, log on to www. greendaynrdc.com.
