Radiohead Says Pay What You Want For "In Rainbows"
Band goes label-less for new album, you decide the price

by Laura Katz

LOS ANGELES, CA  [Tuesday Oct.2.2007]  /WMQT.com/ -- Lots of bands have given away their albums for free, but big acts like Radiohead typically haven't been part of that sweet deal. That is, until now.

The veteran band is offering their new album "In Rainbows" for digital download for the price of...$ whatever you want.

Without ties to a label, Radiohead is free to sell their music directly from their website. "In Rainbows" is now available for pre-order, and it can be downloaded on release on October 10th, reports www.Telegraph.co.uk.

Adam Benzine of "Music Week" says of the move: "Radiohead have really put the cat amongst the pigeons with this one. The album will revolutionize the way people think about music."

"The timing of this comes when The Charlatans are giving their album away as a free download, Prince is giving a DVD away as a covermount free with 'The Observer' and Travis gave away a veritable Best Of free with the 'Mail On Sunday'. This move continues the changing musical landscape for established artists."

Pre-order is available at www.inrainbows.com, but the site had so much traffic earlier that it crashed, according to the Drudge Report.
