BURBANK, CA  [Sunday Jan.18.2004]  /WMQT.com/ -- Britain's largets retailer of music, videos and books, HMV, were one of the best performing companies over the past holiday season and that there was a healthy rise in sales. Sales for the chain said sales rose by 6.6% even with strong competition from supermarkets and other competitors in the home entertainment sector.

The rally was due, in part, to the popular album by Dido along with other in demand albums by artists like Black Eyed Peas and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The DVD of Pirates of the Carribean was also a big shot in the arm.
