Tony Kanal & "50 First Dates"
Bassist produced 3 songs in smash hit movie.
by Ellen Sawyer

DETROIT, MI [Tuesday Feb.24.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- "50 First Dates" remained the top movie for the second weekend in a row, taking in $21 million. The soundtrack features covers of '80s hits, some of which were produced by No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal. Among the reggae-tinged versions of those erstwhile hits are the Cars' "Drive," performed by Ziggy Marley, the Police's "Every Breath You Take," by UB40, and Roxy Music's "Slave To Love" performed by Elan Atias with backing vocals by Gwen Stefani. Sound weird? Well, we didn't even tell you about the weirdest song of all. The weirdest song of all is Mark McGrath doing the Psychedelic Furs' "The Ghost in You," which Kanal produced, but that song was kind of lousy to begin with, so no hard feelings.
