DETROIT, MI [Thursday Mar.4.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- Outkast's Andre 3000 emceed an event this week for Declare Yourself, an organization created to encourage voting among young people. The event was held at the Beverly Hills Post Office and guests were invited to view an original copy of the Declaration of Independence and register to vote. In addition to Andre 3000, the place was packed with superstars, all eager to join the movement toward getting out the vote. Declare Yourself was founded by producer Norman Lear, who said, "As some of Hollywood's most influential young actors, these stars can help spread the important message of voting and democracy to young adults. What could be more important in an election year than to encourage a new generation of voters to participate in civic activism and practice democracy?" Among those in attendance were Leonardo DiCaprio, Kirsten Dunst, Reese Witherspoon, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, LL Cool J, Cedric the Entertainer, and Russell Simmons.
