Rob Thomas's New Approach
Solo album is getting creative juices flowing.
by Ellen Sawyer

DETROIT, MI [Wednesday Mar.17.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty is getting scared, and that's a good thing. He says that working as a solo artist when one has had such success within a group can be daunting. "You start to get that feeling like, 'What if I suck without them?'" he says. He adds that he's been thinking outside the box lately as well. "I've (always) gone into the production of the song thinking it has to have two guitars, a bass, and a drum no matter what we do because that's what our band is," he says. "So it will be nice to be able to do a track with me and a piano. Or me and a drum machine. It's just good to be scared again. You know what I mean?"
