by Ellen Sawyer

Norah Jones
DETROIT, MI  [Wednesday Mar.24.2004]  /WMQT.com/ -- Producer Quincy Jones, who produced the "We Are the World" single almost 20 years ago, is planning a huge event in Rome to benefit his charity Listen Up Foundation, which raises funds and awareness for young victims of violence. Norah Jones, among other artists, politicians, and celebrities, is scheduled to appear in front of an estimated 1 million people who attend the show, which will take place at Rome's Circus Maximus. The event will be held on May 16, and Jones is in talks with US television and Arabic broadcaster al Jazeera to carry the concert.

Artists who have agreed to participate include Jay-Z, Stevie Wonder, LL Cool J, Josh Groban, and Herbie Hancock. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Muhammad Ali, Chris Tucker, Savion Glover and the casts of "Stomp" and "Cirque du Soleil" have also committed. In addition, Jones hopes to bring together classic adversaries, such as Palestinians and Israelies, in activities designed to promote peace and friendship. Don't roll your eyes, people! No one's ever tried Norah Jones and Jay-Z to settle the Middle East crisis...it may work.
