NEW YORK, NY  [Monday May.10.2004]  /WMQT.com/ -- On June 10, Rob Thomas will be swinging on a star.

The Matchbox Twenty frontman will receive the first-ever Starlight Award at the annual Songwriters Hall of Fame show. The award honors gifted songwriters in the early years of their careers who make a significant impact in the music industry through original songs. Lyricist and event organizer Hal David said, "I am so pleased that Rob Thomas will be the first recipient of our brand new Starlight Award, because he epitomizes the contemporary, fresh voice that resonates with young people all over the world." Added David, "His songs demonstrate a solid talent that is making its mark, and we are proud to recognize his achievement."

The event takes place June 10 at New York City's Radio City Music Hall. Stevie Wonder will also be honored, and this year's inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame include Al Green, Don McLean and Hall & Oates.
