Lavigne joins artists on official 2004 Olympic Games album.
NEW YORK, NY [Friday May.28.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- Avril Lavigne will contribute a song on "Unity," the official Athens 2004 Olympic Games album. The Canadian singer covers Bob Dylan's "Knockin' on Heavens Door."
This first of three official 2004 Olympic albums is set for release August 10 and includes tracks featuring collaborations between various musical artists. Destiny's Child, Public Enemy, Lenny Kravitz, Moby, Sting and Alice Cooper are among the musicians contributing.
Athens 2004 President Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki told Billboard, "The 'Unity' album is so much more than a collection of songs." Said Daskalaki, "It is a message of participation, friendship and peace. As the Olympic flame makes its way around the world for the first truly global torch relay, this album will also be an invitation for people everywhere to join us in the historic homecoming of the Olympic Games to Greece."
