Doug Robb and Dan Estrin explain the band's unusual name.
LOS ANGELES, CA [Friday Jun.4.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- Hoobastank frontman Doug Robb and guitarist Dan Estrin recently discussed the band's unusual name. In an interview with Canada's Chart Attack, Robb explained, "When we started this band, that's the name we came up with." He added, "That was 10 years ago - we were teenagers and it fit our music perfectly. It was party music. And as the band grew, the name stuck with us as the music changed."
Estrin continued, "We're not saying it's a great name. Honestly, I think it's a retarded name! It's a horrible band name! It doesn't mean anything, but it did to us at one point. I think it shows that although we do have really serious songs, we don't take ourselves too seriously."
"Can you take us any more seriously because we're called Hoobastank, than you can Disturbed?" laughed Robb. "Does that make them more credible or more serious? I honestly think their name is worse than ours. I just think that name - Disturbed! 'Oooh, we're so Disturbed!' It's so cheeseball!"
