NEW YORK, NY  [Wednesday Jul.21.2004]  /WMQT.com/ -- On Tuesday, August 3, Matchbox Twenty's Rob Thomas and Jewel will take part in an intimate, acoustic benefit performance at New York's China Club to help the Sidewalk Angels Foundation. Proceeds from the ticket sales benefit the non-profit organization, which was created by Thomas and his wife Marisol to help people who are destitute or homeless in and around America's large cities. Sidewalk Angels Foundation also helps animals that have been abused or abandoned, and the organization will donate the August 3 concert's proceeds to Pets Alive (www.petsalive.com), a no-kill animal shelter in Middletown, New York. Pets Alive rescues, rehabilitates and places animals in need. Many of the animals cared for by Pets Alive are victims of neglect, abuse and violence with special needs and have been rejected by other organizations.

The event is presented by fashion designer Ron Chereskin, who will also host along with model Marisol Thomas. At the benefit show, Thomas will debut some "never-before-heard songs" from his forthcoming solo album. Two hundred tickets will be sold by invitation at $250 each, and a limited number of tickets are also being sold through eBay auctions. The first auction began July 19 and ends July 22. The second auction starts July 26 and ends July 29.

"I am thrilled to be able to join Marisol in doing what I can to help her in the development of Sidewalk Angels," said Rob Thomas in a press release. "We are both true believers in the great good that can be done by passionate, selfless individuals who are completely committed to their cause, very often with the deck stacked against them. They are sidewalk angels who have the power to change lives, and we hope we can do our part to help them on their way. I would also like to thank Jewel for joining me on August 3 to play music for Sidewalk Angels."
