Cracking the "My Immortal" Code
Deciphering the beeps on Evanescence's My Immortal.

by Krista Desens

Evanescence
LITTLE ROCK, AR  [Friday Aug.6.2004]  /WMQT.com/ -- If you've been trying to crack the code at the end of Evanescence's "My Immortal," let Ben Moody know when you figure it out. Turns out the beeps are not Morse code at all but just some sounds put together by the band. "If someone can find it, I'd love to know what it said," says the former Evanescence member.

Moody explains, "It's actually a preset pattern on a keyboard synthesizer that we were using on that song. And if you sustain the note long enough, it trails off into this beeping that sounds a lot like Morse cool and we thought that it sounded really cool, so we left it. So it's there by accident, to be perfectly honest with you."
