OutKast, Hoobstank, Maroon 5 go platinum in cyberspace.
NEW YORK, NY [Monday Nov.1.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- OutKast, Hoobastank and Maroon 5 are platinum in cyberspace.
The Recording Industry of Association (RIAA) handed out its first-ever digital music sales awards last week, and OutKast, Hoobastank, Maroon 5 and D12 received platinum prizes for selling at least 200,000 downloads of a single song.
Reuters reported that OutKast's "Hey Ya!" was the top downloaded single, with over 400,000 legal downloads from Internet music services such as Apple's iTunes. OutKast's "Roses" and "The Way You Move" also received platinum honors, as did singles by Hoobastank, Maroon 5 and D12.
Gold awards, for songs downloaded over 100,000 times, went to Usher, Beyonce and Black Eyed Peas.
According to MTV, the RIAA will eventually present awards for digital album sales.
