West, Alicia Keys, Usher, Green Day, LLB up for awards.
LOS ANGELES, CA [Wednesday Dec.8.2004] /WMQT.com/ -- 2004 has been a great year for Kanye West and, on Tuesday, it got even better. The Chicago rapper and producer earned 10 Grammy Award nominations – more than any other artist. Some of the categories West is nominated in include Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for "The College Dropout," Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Best Rap Song for "Jesus Walks" and Best Rap Solo Performance for "Through The Wire." West told the Associated Press, "Ten nominations, that's amazing. That's like a perfect score. I'm at a loss for words."
Alicia Keys and Usher are right behind West with 8 nominations a piece including Album of the Year for "The Diary of Alicia Keys" and "Confessions." Green Day and the late Ray Charles are up for 7 awards. Green Day's "American Idiot" and Charles' "Genius Loves Company" are also in the running for Album of the Year.
Los Lonely Boys and The Black Eyed Peas received four nominations. Besides competing with Kanye West, Maroon 5, Joss Stone and Gretchen Wilson in the Best New Artist category, Los Lonely Boys are also up for Record of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Group for their song "Heaven." The Black Eyed Peas also got a nod for Record of the Year for "Let's Get It Started" as well as nominations for Best Rap Performance by a Group and Best Rap Song.
