LOS ANGELES, CA  [Wednesday Jan.26.2005]  /WMQT.com/ -- NBC's "Tsunami Aid: Concert of Hope," which took place January 15, raised over $18 million to help tsunami victims in South Asia. A statement issued by the American Red Cross said that "thousands of generous Americans pledged an estimated $18.3 million in donations during the Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope." The money raised goes to the American Red Cross International Response Fund to meet the immediate and long-term needs of tsunami victims.

Artists who performed on the two-hour telethon included Nelly, Maroon 5, John Mayer, Madonna, Sarah McLachlan, Elton John, Norah Jones and more. And from now through February 15, Sony's Connect store has made available for download selected performances from the telethon, including Madonna's just-added performance of the John Lennon classic, "Imagine." 100% of the sales price will be donated to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, and Sony Corporation of America will match the first $100,000 raised through domestic sales of the "Tsunami Aid" downloads sold through the Connect music store.
