Humanitarian concert to coincide with G8 summit in July.

LONDON, UK  [Tuesday May.31.2005]  /WMQT.com/ -- It won't be called LIVE AID 2, but musician-activist and Live Aid organizer Sir Bob Geldof confirmed that a large-scale humanitarian concert will take place this July to raise awareness about global poverty.

The entire event will be called "Live 8" in reference to the G8 summit being held in Scotland in July. According to the Associated Press, at least two concurrent Live 8 concerts are scheduled to take place on July 2 in London and Philadelphia. Artists rumored to be taking part in the event include U2, Paul McCartney and Madonna, while Sting has already confirmed he'll participate. Organizers are keeping details secret until Tuesday, May 31, when a full announcement will be made.

In 1985, Bob Geldof and musician Midge Ure organized Live Aid to raise awareness and money to help stop famine and poverty in Africa. Concerts took place in Philadelphia and London, and millions of dollars were raised. Live 8 will take place just days ahead of the G-8 summit of world leaders.

"What started 20 years ago is coming to a political point in a few weeks," Geldof told the BBC. "There's more than a chance that the boys and girls with guitars will finally get to turn the world on its axis."

Ure added, "We'll have all the big names we can find. It's big, and it's as petrifying as the build-up to Live Aid, if not more so."
