U2, Beck, Dr. Dre make Spin's '100 Greatest Albums
NEW YORK, NY [Thursday Jun.23.2005] /WMQT.com/ -- U2, Beck and Dr. Dre are among the artists to make Spin's list of the "100 Greatest Albums" released between 1985 and 2005.
The complete list, as ranked by Spin's editors, can be found in the July issue of the magazine, which counts down the top "100 Greatest Albums" released during Spin's 20 years of existence. Bono, Beck and Dr. Dre grace the cover of the anniversary issue.
U2's 1991 release, "Achtung Baby," comes in at No. 11. The album was recorded in Berlin and Bono explains that U2 "went there to chop down the 'Joshua Tree.' We went there chasing the future."
Beck makes Spin's list twice with his 1996 album "Odelay" landing at No. 16 and his 1994 major-label debut, "Mellow Gold," at No. 81.
Dr. Dre's former group, "N.W.A," is No. 10 with the album "Straight Outta Compton," and Dr. Dre's solo album "The Chronic" also makes the list at No. 35.
So what album was No. 1?
Radiohead's 1997 release, "OK Computer," topped Spin's list. Public Enemy's "It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back" ranked second, and Nirvana's "Nevermind" placed third.
