LONDON, UK  [Wednesday Jul.6.2005]  /WMQT.com/ -- Last Saturday's historic Live 8 anti-poverty concerts featured a number of surprise artist hook-ups including U2 and Paul McCartney, and Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5's Adam Levine.

As previously reported, U2 and Paul McCartney opened the London Live 8 show by performing the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." And during his set at the end of the concert, McCartney brought out George Michael to help him sing The Beatles' "Drive My Car."

Other surprise collaborations in London included Coldplay and ex-Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft teaming up for the Verve's hit "Bittersweet Symphony;" Dido and Senegalese artist Youssou N'Dour duetting on "7 Seconds;" and Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof and the Scottish band Travis covering the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays."

Philadelphia's Live 8 show also had its share of artist hook-ups. R&B, funk and soul legend Stevie Wonder invited Maroon 5's Adam Levine to sing along with him on "Signed, Sealed Delivered I'm Yours," and Wonder also asked Rob Thomas to join him on "Higher Ground." Other notable Philly Live 8 team-ups were the Black Eyed Peas with Stephen and Rita Marley, and Linkin Park and Jay-Z, who mashed it up for the estimated one million people in the audience.
