EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND  [Wednesday Jul.6.2005]  /WMQT.com/ -- Today, July 6, the final Live 8 concert takes place in Edinburgh, Scotland, and Annie Lennox and Snow Patrol are among the artists performing.

Called "Edinburgh 50,000: The Final Push," the concert marks the last effort by Live 8 organizers to reach the leaders of the eight wealthiest industrialized countries before they meet at the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland this week. According to organizers, the "50,000" figure refers to the number of people who will die in one day from extreme poverty.

Live 8 is urging the leaders of the US, UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Russia and Japan to put an end to extreme poverty and change the future for millions of men, women and children by doubling aid, fully canceling debt, and delivering trade justice for Africa.

Along with Annie Lennox and Snow Patrol, other artists scheduled to participate in Wednesday's "Edinburgh 50,000: The Final Push" include Travis, Texas, Youssou N'Dour, the Proclaimers, the Corrs, McFly, and Live 8 organizer and musician Bob Geldof.
