Bono and Geldof praise G8 leaders for doubling African aid.
LONDON, UK [Thursday Jul.14.2005] /WMQT.com/ -- Bono and Bob Geldof have declared Live 8 a huge success.
After the anti-poverty concerts were staged around the globe, leaders from the US, UK, Canada, France, Italy, Russia, Japan and Germany gathered in Scotland for the G8 summit. During the meeting, the G8 leaders pledged to provide $50 billion in aid to Africa.
Bono said that the pledged funds "mean the financing is in place to halve deaths from malaria by 2010" and that 600,000 people "will be alive to remember this G8 in Gleneagles who would have lost their lives to" malaria.
The U2 frontman added, "The world spoke, and the politicians listened."
