Green Day, Kanye West, Yearwood sign on for NFL special.
FOXBORO, MA [Monday Aug.15.2005] /WMQT.com/ -- Green Day, Kanye West and Trisha Yearwood are among the artists who will help kick off the 2005-2006 NFL season next month.
On Thursday, September 8th, ABC will air "NFL Opening Kickoff 2005," featuring Green Day, West, the Rolling Stones, Maroon 5 and Santana. The special precedes the NFL season opener between the Oakland Riders and current Super Bowl champs, the New England Patriots.
The pre-game special will be hosted by actor Freddie Prinze Jr. and will be shot in three different cities including Detroit, Michigan; Foxboro, Massachusetts; and Los Angeles, California.
Performance footage from the Rolling Stones' concert in Detroit will be included in the broadcast, while Green Day and Santana will perform live from Foxboro's Gillette Stadium. Trisha Yearwood will also sing the national anthem prior to the game live from Gillette Stadium.
Meanwhile in Los Angeles, Maroon 5 and Kanye West are taking part in a free, pregame concert outside the Los Angeles Coliseum -- the site of the first Super Bowl. Portions of the concert will air on the NFL special.
