Gorillaz awarded The Jim Henson Creativity Honor.
HOLLYWOOD, CA [Tuesday Dec.27.2005] /WMQT.com/ -- Virtual band the Gorillaz are among the recipients of the first annual Jim Henson Honors.
On December 21st, the Gorillaz, were awarded the Jim Henson Creativity Honor, which acknowledges a new creative voice or unique expression of an idea.
The Gorillaz received the honor for "the revolutionary way the band was created as well as the innovative expression of their music."
Other recipients of the first annual Jim Henson Honors include "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling, who received the Jim Henson Celebration Honor for her literary achievements; Bill Haber, who was awarded the Jim Henson Community Honor for his work with Save the Children; and the gas-electric hybrid car, The Toyota Prius, which received the Jim Henson Technology Honor.
The Jim Henson Honors were established to recognize organizations, individuals or products that reflect the core values and philosophy of Muppets creator Jim Henson and the company he founded in 1955.
Artists and staff at The Jim Henson Company nominated the potential recipients based on creative expression, innovation, and commitment to excellence.
