SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA  [Wednesday Feb.15.2006]  /WMQT.com/ -- The nominees are in for MTV Australia's second annual Video Music Awards, and Madonna leads the pack with five nominations.

Madonna scored nods for Best Female Artist and Album of the Year for her latest disc, "Confessions on a Dance Floor." Her song "Hung Up" is also up for Video of the Year, Best Dance Video, and Song of the Year.

Following on Madonna's heels are Green Day, Kanye West and Foo Fighters with three AVMA nominations each. Aussie artists the Veronicas, Bernard Fanning and Wolfmother also earned three AVMA nods.

Green Day could take home awards for Best Group, Best Rock Video, and Video of the Year. Kanye West will try for Best Hip Hop Video, Best Male Artist and Song of the Year. The Foo Fighters are contenders for Best Group, Best Rock Video and Album of the Year.

Other nominees include James Blunt, Kelly Clarkson, Ashlee Simpson, Gorillaz, U2, 50 Cent, Coldplay and Pussycat Dolls.

The AVMAs will be handed out in Sydney, Australia on April 12th.
