NME Magazine announces ShockWaves Award Winners.
LONDON, UK [Friday Feb.24.2006] /WMQT.com/ -- British music magazine NME handed out its ShockWaves Awards last night, and the Strokes, Kanye West, Madonna, and Franz Ferdinand were among this year's winners.
The Strokes took home the prize for Best International Band, edging out Green Day, Foo Fighters, the Killers and the Arcade Fire.
Kanye West earned Best Solo Artist, knocking out British favorites Ian Brown and Richard Ashcroft.
The Best Live Band trophy went to Franz Ferdinand, who triumphed over Green Day, Oasis, and the Kaiser Chiefs. But the Kaiser Chiefs weren't left empty-handed, walking away with Best Album for their debut disc, "Employment." Kaiser Chiefs frontman Ricky Wilson was also named Best Dressed.
The winners of the ShockWaves NME Awards were decided through online voting by the public, and the voters left no doubt that Madonna's still got "it." The "Hung Up" singer was named the Sexiest Woman, beating out Subways bassist Charlotte Cooper and White Stripes' drummer Meg White.
The voters were less kind to singer-songwriter James Blunt, who's "Back To Bedlam" won the "Worst Album" award. Also getting a thumbs-down was The Darkness singer Justin Hawkins, who earned "Worst Dressed."
