U2 postpones last 10 shows; Kanye West to continue touring.
NEW YORK, NY [Monday Mar.13.2006] /WMQT.com/ -- Grammy-Award-winning band U2 has postponed the final dates of its "Vertigo '06 World Tour."
According to U2.com, the final 10, sold-out dates of the tour are postponed "due to the illness of an immediate family member of one of the band." No further information was given about the nature of the illness or the band member involved.
The postponed concerts include Auckland, New Zealand; Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, and Sydney, Australia; Yokohama, Japan; and Honolulu, Hawaii.
U2's tour promoter The Next Adventure said the decision to cancel the shows was unavoidable.
"Any fan of U2 will realize that this decision has not been taken lightly," TNA President Arthur Fogel told U2.com. "We will announce further details as soon as we have them."
Another Grammy winner, Kanye West, was scheduled to open the New Zealand and Australian shows for U2. West's label Roc-A-Fella Records says West will continue on his "Touch The Sky Tour" and will play his scheduled dates in those countries.
"Of course my prayers are with U2 and their families at this time, and I'm sure their fans share that sentiment with me," West told Roc-A-Fella. "It's been an incredible experience touring with U2. They are a truly special band, a great organization, and their fans are the best in the world."
